Tresys Technology Announces the Release of the
Reference Policy, Version 20061018, for Security Enhanced Linux

Columbia, Maryland – October 23, 2006
– Tresys Technology has released Version 20061018 of the Security Enhanced Linux (SELinux) Reference Policy. The SELinux Reference Policy is designed to provide the basis for creating customized security policies. However, it is also usable standalone as the system policy for many systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and the forthcoming Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 release. This release completes the transition from the former standard SELinux example policy and includes 65 new modules which provide support for a variety of services and applications. It also provides an improved infrastructure for defining user roles.

A SELinux security policy is a sophisticated set of system security rules that makes it possible to configure Linux for many differing security solutions. The SELinux Reference Policy is designed using computer science concepts to provide this configurability while facilitating the satisfaction of a policy’s overall security goals. It also provides improved documentation and support for development tools. The Reference Policy is now the standard SELinux policy for all Linux distributions.

Reference Policy is just one of several Tresys-developed open source technologies for SELinux. For more information on Reference Policy and other SELinux technologies, visit www.tresys.com/selinux.
